The Bedford Gallery, located on the ground floor of the Lesher Center for the Arts in downtown Walnut Creek, has become well regarded in the Bay Area as a modest-sized gallery that exhibits big-museum-quality shows. Every season, the gallery curates exhibitions with a variety of themes and works by historic, modern, artists, from both the East Bay and from around the world. The main house on the Shadelands Ranch is a 1903 redwood-framed Colonial Revival structure that showcases numerous historical artifacts, many of which belonged to Hiram Penniman. The museum acts as home to a collection of historical documents, newspapers, photographs and government records related to Contra Costa County and Walnut Creek. The grounds are available for rent.
