The Delaware County Historical Society is located on Palmers Mill Road at the end of a winding road. Founded in 1895, it is the oldest historical society in Delaware County. It currently owns two properties: Greenbank Farm in Media and the old Delaware County National Bank in Chester. Once housed in the old Courthouse, the library is now next door in the old bank building. Greenbank Farm is a historic site as well as home to the DCHS administrative and Passport to History offices.
The DCHS appeals to all different types of visitors, from students of all ages, to tourists to genealogists. Visitors can learn about the long legacy and history of Delaware County. The county records are stored at the Chester location, and the staff at the Greenbank Farm location are very knowledgeable about local history.
Delaware County Institute of Science is a museum, library and lecture facility all in one. The institute is open to the public but is made up of individual members. Throughout the year, the institute provides monthly lectures by well-known and qualified persons. Each year there is an annual field trip that is, of course, related to the natural sciences. There is no admission fee, so this is a great place to visit and see a nice collection of mounted animals and birds.
