The Alameda School of Music exists to give children a chance to learn and participate in a vital musical community in a time when schools are cutting music programs wholesale. This school provides both one-on-one musical tutelage as well as group sessions in an immersive and comprehensive learning environment. The teachers offer adult classes as well for beginners. Established in 1979, Thin Man Music features a variety of new and used stringed instruments, from pink ukuleles to old fashioned mandolins to vintage electric guitars and basses. The shop also stocks music books, instrument accessories, amplifiers, recordings and more. They offer sales locally, over the internet, and through mail. Thin Man Music also offers repairs on a variety of stringed instruments, as well as lessons in bass, bass violin, guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and ukulele.
The Alameda Violin School offers music education for adults and children 3 years old and up. Violin, viola, music fundamentals, music theory and keyboard skills are taught here. Tuition includes 47 lessons per year, as well as mini-recitals, group classes and at least one formal recital per year. Instructor Caitlin Keen is a certified member of the Music Teachers Association of California.
