Founded in 1950, the Fairfax County Park Authority is one of the divisions administered by the County of Fairfax. Its areas of responsibility include preservation of environmentally sensitive and historically significant infrastructure and resources. The authority administers the set of regulations and requirements that govern the acquisition and use of lands, parks, playgrounds and fitness centers. It also undertakes maintenance and improvement of recreational facilities in the county. In addition to that, it organizes camps, workshops, day trips, festivals and tours.
