The Pacifica Foundation oversees the operations of KPFA in Berkeley and more than one hundred other affiliated Pacifica stations. These listener supported community stations are commercial free. The stations are highly dependent on the generosity of the communities in which they operate.
While most students will leave high school having forgotten when the Battle of Hastings took place or what mitosis is, one of the skills with which they will hopefully emerge is the ability to write, which improves their chances of doing all sorts of good things with their lives. The National Writing Project helps facilitate this learning by training teachers and working with school districts to customize research-based solutions to their particular needs. They have a national program model as well as extensive resources they share with educators from K - 12 and at the university level.
The Psychotherapy Institute offers two-year, post-graduate training programs in psychotherapy, group therapy, and theory and practice of supervision. It also runs a number of professional development courses for practicing therapists. Therapy for the public is available, and rates are charged on a sliding scale.
