Much of the work we do involves weatherizing homes through the Weatherization Assistance Program. Most of Buffalos homes were built long before energy prices skyrocketed and they were not produced to be particularly energy efficient. Through the Weatherization Assistance Program, we provide the money needed to help income-eligible individuals weatherize their house- increasing efficiency and lowering heating bills. We also provide money and services to help perform emergency home rehabilitation work on your property. We help income-eligible individuals perform the home rehab work that their house needs to correct health and safety violations. In addition, we provide a variety of counseling services for individuals in need. We offer Foreclosure Counseling, Reverse Mortgage Counseling, Credit Counseling and Home Ownership Education Counseling. Our counseling programs are dedicated to keeping you in your home, getting your credit back on track and helping you make intelligent decisions about when is the right time for you to buy a house. Weve been around and helping out the neighborhood for a long time, and weve gotten a lot done. Here are some of our accomplishments: -Neighborhood Housing Services of South Buffalo was the first organization in the state to use NYS HTF funding for a firehouse conversion into apartment units, under budget. - Neighborhood Housing Services of South Buffalo was the first organization in Buffalo to receive and successfully complete NYS HOME funding for owner occupied housing rehabilitation. - First application of NYS Affordable Housing Corporating funding using loan portfolio funding as a match component by a local non-profit. - Only organization in WNY to participate in the initial "Success Measures" program through Neighborworks America.
