Small Wonders is a year-round nonprofit child care center that operates in the Perry B. Duryea state office building on Veterans Highway. It offers five programs ranging from nursery school to preschool, and  children are separated by age. The kids of New York State employees are given priority placement, but the center is open to the general public. Small Wonders features both part-time and full-time programs to fit a variety of schedules, and serves breakfast and lunch as required. Payment plans are available.

LIAAC is a regional community-based nonprofit agency delivering comprehensive programs to residents in Long Island, N.Y., who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Based in Commack, N.Y., the Long Island Head Injury Association is an independent nonprofit organization offers various programs for survivors of head injury and their families. The center promotes public awareness of traumatic brain injury and its consequences and also provides solutions to several problems faced by the head injury survivors. It also provides all types of medical, rehabilitation, vocational and recreational systems to individuals suffering from head juries. Its residential services department offers housing opportunities to survivors of traumatic brain injury in community-based homes and supportive and supervised apartments. Founded in 1980, Long Island Cares is one of the leading antihunger organizations in Long Island, N.Y. It is a nonprofit, community-based organization that works in association with various charitable agencies to serve Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York. The organization provides emergency food assistance and sponsor programs for individuals and families. This is the local branch of the national nonprofit United Cerebral Palsy Associations. Founded in 1949, the association provides services for individials with cerebral palsy and a multitude of other physical and developmental disease. The Suffolk branch offers aid in diagnosis, evalatuion, treatment, therapy, assistive technology, referrals, intervention, age-appropriate programming, vocational rehabilitation and more. It curently operates 30 homes for people with developmental disabilities.
