Started by a group of volunteers, St. Joseph s Center works to provide care, concern, compassion and commitment to patients and their families. Located in Scranton, Pa., it offers pregnancy, outpatient therapy, and family and adoption services. The center also conducts various extensive residential and community-based programs for children and adults diagnosed with mental retardation. Established in 1888, St. Joseph s serves residents throughout northeastern Pennsylvania. It provides residential services for homeless mothers and children, as well as offers residential and outpatient therapies and educational programs. The center works in cooperation with hospitals, welfare organizations, and governmental and private agencies in community planning for the better health of citizens. St. Joseph s Center is affiliated with Baptist Bible College & Seminary, Luzerne County Community College, Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and American Dietetic Association.
