In January, 1990 a twelve member committee worked together to create a place where people without insurance could receive affordable health care. On March 6, 1991 the InterFaith Health Clinic opened its doors to serve those earning too much to qualify for government subsidized insurance and too little to afford private insurance. Since opening, the clinic has served over 50, 000 patients. The InterFaith Health Clinic will provide accessible, affordable and quality health care to the low income, working uninsured, primarily through the support of the religious, health care and business communities. These services are provided within the capacity of the clinic regardless of race, creed, age, religion or national origin.

Knoxville Jewish Alliance, also known as KJA, works for the cultural, social and intellectual development of individuals. The organization serves Jewish communities throughout the world. It conducts movie, casino and karaoke nights for adolescents through the University of Tennessee Jewish Student Center-Hillel. Founded in 1988, Project GRAD Knoxville is a collaborative partnership between Knox County Schools and the private sector to help improve the academic performance and future options of more than 121,900 children in Knoxville schools. It also operates in Akron, Alaska, Atlanta, Brownsville, Cincinnati, Lorain, Los Angeles, Newark, and Long Island. The project s mathematics program is a teaching system that promotes a balance between the student s understanding of mathematical concepts and computational fluency in kindergarten through grade eight. It also offers social services and provides scholarships to students.

Thompson Cancer Survival Center, a division of Covenant Health, is based in Knoxville, Tenn. Thompson Cancer also has a Thompson Methodist facility in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and a West Knoxville, Tenn. facility that provides Positron Emission Tomography imaging, medical and radiation oncology. The center provides care for sufferers of breast cancer, lung cancer and a form of esophageal cancer known as Barrett s esophagus with dysplasia. Thompson Cancer provides photodynamic therapy, a treatment that uses a combination of a photosensitizer a light activated drug and laser light designed to destroy abnormal cells. Founded in 1929, the Arnstein Jewish Community Center is a Jewish community in the United States. It is a division of the Knoxville Jewish Alliance. The center offers after-school, swimming, educational and cultural programs, as well as organizes various childrens activities and holiday celebrations. The Arnstein Jewish Community Center covers an area of more than 10 acres and features a gymnasium, performing stage, pools, meeting rooms and tennis courts.
