Dr. Holder was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area where she developed a passion for fishing and playing piano. From an early age, she knew she did not want a career in the family accounting business, as she enjoyed biology and working with her hands. She moved to Houston after college to study at Baylor College of Medicine. After completing residency in St. Louis, she and her family returned to Houston, where she received specialized training in cancer surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Holder values the diversity of people, activities, and culture in the Houston area. Although not a Texan by birth, she has embraced the welcoming and generous spirit of the state she now calls "home."As a surgeon, I owe it to my patients, who place their trust in me, to strive to exceed the standard of care, not only technically but also cognitively. My approach to caring for my patients is defined by my compassion to care for each patient as I would my own family. Although born in Caracas, Venezuela, Dr. Esnaola was raised in Houston, Texas. As a child, his pediatrician inspired him to become a physician. Dr. Tovar was always thoughtful, kind, and compassionate. I knew from my interactions with him that he was the kind of individual I wanted to become, and that medicine was the career I wanted to pursue: one in which I would have the opportunity to help others and make things better".As a medical student, Dr. Esnaola was always fascinated by cancer biology, but it wasnt until he spent time in the clinics and operating rooms that he truly understood the disruptive impact of cancer on patients and families lives. Surgical oncologists aren™t simply surgeons that specialize in removing tumors. They have a deep knowledge of cancer that allow them to provide their patients with the best chance for cure and radically change their lives".Dr. Esnaolas patient care philosophy is simple: "Always treat all your patients as you would like your own family to be treated". He added, Working with cancer patients is a tremendous privilege. To be truly successful, Surgical Oncologists must collaborate closely with referring physicians and other cancer specialists to ensure that patients receive prompt, personalized, patient-centered, cutting-edge cancer care that addresses all their clinical, emotional, and social needs - from diagnosis to survivorship.
