Founded in 1974, Swords to Plowshares is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides counseling and case management, employment and training, housing, and legal assistance to more than 2, 000 homeless and low-income veterans annually in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. We promote and protect the rights of veterans through advocacy, public education, and partnerships with local, state, and national entities. Swords to Plowshares is the only veterans service agency in the United States that provides a full continuum of care to low-income and homeless veterans. Founded in 1996, it offers full-day programs that emphasizes on play and physical activities during lunchtime, recess and after school. The organizations lunchtime program includes establishing game areas on the playground, distributing balls and sports equipment, teaching the rules and strategies of playing games. It offers a class game time program that delivers a structured, play-based curriculum based on youth development principles. The organization also provides a sports and game class handbook that lists various games for fun. Additionally, Sports 4 Kids provides online donation facilities.
