Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, Rauhoff Park offers peaceful grassy areas and a tree-shaded playground for the local children. The park district acquired the property in 1975.
The park district of Tinley Park acquired the land for St. Boniface Park in 1974. The six-acre public facility has a baseball field and playground, in addition to areas for basketball and soccer.
The nine-acre Pottawattomie Park offers a ball field, soccer field, horseshoe pit, scenic pathways and a playground. For more restful activities, it offers picnic areas and a picnic shelter (permit required). Portable restrooms are available from April 1st to October 31st.
Next to the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center and park district offices, the district-owned White Water Canyon Water Park is a colorful and popular series of water slides, pools, play areas and the interactive fountains of the spray ground. The main pool features zero-depth entry, meaning it slants into the water like a beach. It also has a one-meter diving board, a three-meter drop slide and an interactive children's play area. There's also 600-foot lazy river for relaxing on single or double inner tubes that runs through the park and some paths with splash buckets. Sand play areas, locker rooms, restrooms and a full-service concession stand are also available. Birthday party packages are offered.
Orland Hills Recreation Department hosts social events and sports activities throughout the year, including baseball and volleyball leagues, fishing expeditions and craft fairs. Events are posted on its website. The department also rents out sports facilities and park and recreation space for private and community events.
One of the first to be owned by the district, the 8.8-acre Memorial Park was acquired in 1968. It offers two ball fields, a basketball area, a playground, two tennis courts, concessions and restrooms during games and paths to nearby Vogt Woods. It is located next to Fulton School and the Community Consolidated School District 146 offices.
The batting cages and popular miniature golf courses that make up Tinley Junction are part of the larger McCarthy Park and next to the Jaycee Grove picnic area. Concessions are available. Portable restrooms are available in McCarthy Park April 1 to Oct. 31.
The 18-hole mini golf course includes a model train track with working train, a nod to Tinley Park's railroad heritage. On Mondays, all games are $3.50. Group rates are available.
