Established in 1891, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is one of the oldest health care centers operated by the University of Texas. Its facilities are spread over an area of more than 80 acres and feature several hospitals, academic institutions, and research centers and institutes, as well as one of the largest medical libraries in the Southwest. The organization employs nearly 10,000 faculty and staff members at its campus and the network of community-based clinics. It serves more than 35,000 individuals annually.
