MINACT is responsible for providing material, services and personnel to operate Job Corps Centers across the United States. Job Corps is a national residential training and employment program for disadvantaged youth ages 16 through 24. Customers are provided with comprehensive career development services including academic, vocational, social and independent living skills, career readiness training and support services for employment preparation. During its first 21 years, MINACT provided start-up operations for five centers and transitioned 10 other centers. It hired and trained more than 2,400 staff members, purchased more than $3.5 million in equipment and maintained residential training facilities for more than 5,000 trainees. MINACT also has contractual responsibility for recruitment of Job Corps students and for their placement after the program. Job Corps continues to serve nearly 70,000 students annually at nearly 120 centers throughout the country.
