One of the best in town, as voted by readers of The Boston Phoenix. The sandwiches use Boar's Head meats and are named after famous gangsters, the pizzas have a wide range of toppings, and each and every panini is made pressed to order. Delivery is only available at the JP location, but you can order online and pick it up yourself. Incidentally, the same folks own Sugar Bakery right next door!
Christo's is a West Roxbury institution, offering sub shop fare with a Greek twist (pan pizza) that's unique to the area. The focus is on flavor, freshness and variety which has kept the restuarant thriving for 40 years.

Comella's is a Massachusetts-based, family-owned Italian eatery with six existing locations and two new stores on the way. The West Roxbury restaurant has been open since early 2007, and the menu features a mind-boggling array of pasta and pizza choices. Comella's is all about family recipies and sauces, which comes across with its unique selection of delicious "Mess" Italian goulash meals. The motto? "The finished mess looks like an accident but tastes great!" Comella's serves beer and wine.
Tony's Place is one of the oldest and most respected food establishments in West Roxbury. Ask around and people will tell you why: consistently fresh seafood dishes, pizza that has been voted local #1 in the Phoenix multiple times, and the raved-about Veal and Chicken Parmesean. Tony's is also one of those user-friendly establishments that is divided into three distinct areas: the bar, the dining room and the pizzeria. It's a good spot for almost any occasion or outing.
DeNo's opened a secondary store in Brookline in 2008, but the West Roxbury location is the original, founded in 1983. One distinguishing factor is the hearth-stone pizza ovens the restuarant uses. Another would be the Sicilian Sampler, a pizza with eight individual toppings that gets divided into 32 pieces. The 29-inch Super Sub is also a specialty item, along with myriad Italian pasta dishes, calzones, paninis -- even burritos. DeNo's does extensive catering, has Wi-Fi and accepts orders through its website.
A&N Pizza may be off the beaten path, but it's well worth the walk. More than 40 years in business has given A&N plenty of time to perfect its delicious pizzas, subs, salads, gyros, pastas and calzones made with a Greek (or sometimes Sicilian) twist. A&N also embraces new trends - it takes online orders and offers wifi service if you're dining on the premises. The there tables on the patio all have umbrellas and this stretch of Centre Street is nice and quiet.
Pomodoro's Kitchen is on a relatively quiet stretch of Grove Street off of Washington and features classic sub shop fare, including pizza, char-broiled meats, heaping salads, specialty pastas, fried platters, wraps and calzones.
