Cypress is a group of people who are in the process of becoming what we were created to be. It is a process because the way life and spiritual growth work is more like a cycle one keeps moving through than a strait path from beginning to end. The process is more concerned about what people are becoming than what they used to be. It involves being more focused on the potential of peoples futures than the mistakes of their past. Four words best describe this process: hospital, family, school, and army. Cypress Avenue Baptist Church has been a warm, friendly spiritual family since October 29, 1950. Cypress started as a mission church named Immanuel Baptist Church on Sutter Avenue with 30 people. In 1954, the mission purchased 4 acres on Cypress Avenue in Carmichael ; however, the church did not adopt its current name until 1960. Now approaching its sixth decade of ministry, Cypress strives to be a place that cares about people and meets the needs of a constantly changing community. Cypress has been honored to be one of the first to lead in the area of ministry for the mentally challenged. In the mid 80s Cypress started a Special Adult Ministry that to this day still shares Christs love with these special people. Cypress also has a long, privileged history of ministry to children, teenagers, adults, and senior adults. For almost 60 years, Cypress has been providing activities and opportunities for all of these age groups. Missions have also been an important part of Cypress ministry to the others. The Body of Christ at Cypress has been to over 20 different countries and several states across our nation to meet needs and share the love of Jesus.
