In addition to Sunday worship services, Cedar Blvd. Neighborhood Church offers Vietnamese and Chinese language services. The church manages the King's Kids Preschool and the Stellar Academy for Dyslexics. The Cedar Blvd. Neighborhood Church is part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The church was part of the Mission San Jose and later the Mission Holy Spirit until 1920 when it became St. Edward Catholic Church. The Church offers masses in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin. The church shares its space with St. Edward's Catholic School. St. Edward Catholic Church has 52 organizations that support its diverse population, including societies for its Filipino, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking members.
The Living Hope Fellowship Center is a Foursquare Gospel Church. In 2006, it moved from Alvarado Blvd. to its current location that was once occupied by the Mother Church "Rose of Sharon." Pastor Nelson Dizon says Living Hope teaches the Bible and the church welcomes everyone with the love of Jesus. The church's worship space and its bright stained glass windows date back to the 1800s.
The First Baptist Church supports its multi-cultural community with Gospel-centric worship services, prayer and service programs. The church is a New Reform denomination. According to Chaplain Dave Hanson, Pastor James Tippins is devoted to his congregation and is considered a "techno-pastor" who manages the church's website and Facebook page. The First Baptist Church serves its large Afghan population with events like the Afghan Family Thanksgiving Dinner. The church also offers Spanish-language Bible study classes. Chaplain Hanson says about 15% of the church's funds are used to support missionary programs around the world. Neighbors are welcome to use the church's basketball courts and fields, says Chaplain Hanson.
The Emmanuel Mission Church is part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Pastor Hyung Moon says this is an ethnic church with several Korean-language programs. Families, couples and singles participate in bible studies, missionary programs, choir groups and more. Those interested in the church may attend the English language worship service on Sundays at 1:30pm.
Holy Redeemer is a Lutheran Church with a history of service that extends beyond the city's borders. Church members volunteer at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen in Hayward and youth members have helped build homes during mission trips to Mexico. The church also offers after-school tutoring sessions for a fee.
Home of Christ is located inside a business park off Dumbarton Court. The church offers worship services in English and Chinese. The church is active in the Newark Community as it collected school supplies for students and food items for the food pantry at Viola Blythe Community Center. Home of Christ also supports mission trips to Taiwan and Mexico.
The Salvation Army is devoted to answering the Bible's call to service with several community outreach programs. The church offers three food programs in Newark as well as school supply drives, nutrition education classes, PG&E assistance, senior potluck dinners and more. Staff members say that these social service programs is one of the reasons why the Salvation Army has a strong relationship with the city of Newark. Church members and Newark residents kick off the holiday season by ringing bells at red kettles around the city and collecting donations. Captains John and Ruth Lee say community members are welcome to join the church during its Sunday morning breakfast before worship services at 9:30 am.
