Collinsville Congregational Church, like the entire village, sprang from the Collins Company Factory. Sam Collins erected the First Congregational Church of Collinsville in 1836, some four years after the local congregation was established. The present day structure was built in 1858, a year after the previous one was destroyed by fire.
Today the church invites residents to"come as you are." Children of all ages are also welcome and the church remains active in the community.
The Memorial United Methodist Church of Avon is located on West Avon Road near two farm plots. The building, built around a unique, triangular foundation, has a prolific column that makes it easily visible from down the road. Religion classes and bible study takes place on the second floor, as well as the Joyful Jam and the Bellringers musical groups. There is a churchery school on the first floor of the establishment. It is not uncommon for the community to utilize rooms in the church for events and the church has a teen center, equipped with comfortable chairs, a foosball table and electronics. Residents who are not church members are invited to attend events like open mic nights. Reverend Tony Mecca leads Sunday worship services.
Valley Community Baptist Church offers both contemporary and blended worship services. Contemporary services incorporate music from the church band and vocal group, according to the church website. The blended services incorporate classical hymns. The church is accommodating to all ages, offering a nursery for toddlers and infants during service hours, middle school and high school ministries, and community and volunteer activities for children, teenagers and adults.
Sign language interpretation is an option at worship services. Pastor Jamie Sipsma writes a blog called The Overlaps about the connection between religion and culture. Church members can submit prayer requests to Pastor Jay Abramson. Audio recordings of his sermons are are available online. Overflow parking for the church is available in the senior center parking lot down the street at Sycamore Hills Park.
Ellington Wesleyan Church strives to help everyone pursue and realize a relationship with Jesus Christ. It hopes believers will realize their spiritual gifts and use them in service to others.
A women's ministry group allows Ellington Wesleyan's women to get more involved in their church and their community. Infant and toddler care is available here; toddlers have their own room where Bible stories and songs are taught to them. There is also a Sunday school program known as "Children's Church" for kids in kindergarten through fourth grade. These students participate in two local service projects during the year.
Fifth- and sixth-graders meet monthly for game nights, lock-ins and concerts, and they do service projects quarterly. Seventh through 12th graders, along with adult congregants, also do quarterly service projects.
The Ellington Christian Nursery School is also located here.
Located across from the Avon Public Library on Country Club Road, the West Avon Congregational Church is guided by the principle that every church member is a minister, and that caring for one another is central to ministry. Dr. Brian Hardee is the current minister. West Avon Church is very involved in community outreach, with numerous charitable missions. The church is part of the United Church of Christ, which has about 1.5 million members, as well as the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ, consisting of 253 churches and 97,000 churchgoers, according to the church website.
