Originally served by priests from neighboring communities, St. Gregory the Great Parish was incorporated in 1900, and the church was constructed in 1902.

After the original church was torn down when Harrison widened Halstead Avenue in 1934, a new Romanesque-style church was built upon a foundation of building stones from the original church.

St. Gregory's also sponsors a chapter of the CYO basketball program.

The parish is run by Msgr. Francis J. Mc Aree, J.C.D.
