Upper Providence Township was settled in 1683 primarily by people from Sweden and Wales. As of the 2000 census, it has a population of 10,509. The school district is Rose Tree Media. The Rose Tree Tavern, built in 1739, is still located at Rose Tree and Providence roads and is currently undergoing renovations.

Established in 1905, Pennsylvania State Police is a police organization in the United States. The authorized police has jurisdiction in all political subdivisions in the Commonwealth.
