Administrated by the Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel, the Iris Family Center for Early Childhood Education is a Jewish pre-school program. JaJo is a preschool for kids from infants up to 6 years old. It also offers after-school care for children from 7 to 13 years old.
Village Babies is a child care center for infants and kids up to five years old. The curriculum includes language skills, art, science, math, music, dance, fitness, storytime and indoor and outdoor playtime.
Village Babies is owned and operated by Dana Kearney and Maritza Richards. The school offers services in Spanish and Japanese as well as English. The staff is CPR and First Aid certified.
The beautiful convent building of the Our Lady of Sorrows Church was completely renovated to house this nursery, which accommodates children from 6 weeks to 3 years. Its state of the art webcam service allows parents to set up a password and observe their own children during the day or review the archived recordings at any other time. It provides year-round care for infants and toddlers.
In addition to its regular staff, this nursery school has specialists who teach music, movement, science and yoga. Afternoon extended day classes for 3 and 4-year-olds include Creative Concoctions on Monday, Science on Tuesday, Yoga on Wednesday, Art 101 on Thursday and Fun with Literature on Friday. Fall classes typically fill up by the previous spring, but there is no registration deadline. This school also offers early morning drop off beginning at 8am.
This small, 60-year-old nursery school is a co-op, and parents volunteer for monthly shifts. The school is adjacent to First Presbyterian and Trinity Church but is housed in a separate building and is non-denominational. Applications for the fall are accepted on a rolling basis, starting in mid-December; admission is on a first come, first serve basis, and there's typically a short waiting list. Rapport among parents is encouraged with a few yearly coffees and potlucks. There's no outdoor play area, but there's a spacious indoor gym in a former auditorium.
Beth El's preschool has been in existence for close to 40 years and many of the current students are the children of alums. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis, but preference is given to synagogue members and siblings of current students. In addition to the regular staffers, the school employs a music specialist and a gymnastics/yoga instructor who works with the 3- and 4-year-olds every two weeks. Every classroom has two teachers. There are also parent/child classes for 1- to 2-year-olds. Director Sandy Sachs has held her position for seven years.
