Right next to Cardinal Stritch, along Port Washington Road, is the large property of St. Francis Children's Center. The interior is colorful, clean and vibrant. The staff is friendly, professional and willing to assist at every turn. The exterior includes a large playing area, another smaller playing area in the front, and several pieces of playground equipment. Three members of the staff are residents of Glendale, and two are graduates of neighboring Nicolet High School. Creative nurturing and education for early childhood development is the St. Francis Children's Center's primary concern.

Starting in the early 1800's, University School originally began as The German-English Academy (GEA). In 1917, GEA changed its name to University School. Milwaukee Female Seminary, Milwaukee Country Day and the new University School combined their efforts in 1963.
