Wed like to tell you about our agency. When families are in need of the highest quality services for their children who may have emotional disturbances, behavioral disorders, developmental challenges, chemical addictions, or a range of other mental health problems, they turn to the Staten Island Mental Health Society (SIMHS.org) for help. The SIMHS is a private, not-for-profit agency that provides comprehensive mental health and related services to Staten Island children who are emotionally or behaviorally disturbed, developmentally or learning disabled, neurologically impaired, dependent on alcohol or drugs, and/or economically disadvantaged. Our goal is to help these children and their families improve the quality of their lives and enhance their futures. Our 300 professional and support staff provide assistance to more than 5, 000 individuals each year (over one-in-ten Staten Island families) at our 21 program sites throughout the borough. Moreover, we have provided free September 11th-related services to more than 2, 000 people who were affected by the terrorist attacks on New York. In addition, our more than 500 volunteers contribute 50, 000 hours of service. The SIMHS is a member of the Staten Island Smoke-Free Parnership that supports neighborhood efforts to reduce tobacco use. For more information go to
