The Children's School in North Stamford offers a Montessori-based program that aims to helps students explore their skills and interact in social situations. The Children's School operates as a modern one-room schoolhouse where students in preschool through third grade are encouraged to approach educational materials independently. Children rotate between group and individual lessons, which cover all major subjects including language arts, math, reading, science and social studies. Teachers also rotate between groups depending on the needs of the students. The school provides numerous activities, including an after-school program for children and a lecture series for parents.
Founded in 1964, Our Lady Star of the Sea Church is located in the Shippan neighborhood of the city, and is operated under the Diocese of Bridgeport. In addition to daily masses, the church offers Bible study for adults, religious education for children and numerous social events. The congregation works together on various outreach programs, including visiting shut-ins, operating senior luncheons and assisting in fundraising efforts on behalf of the Malta House. Our Lady Star of the Sea also operates a private elementary school for children in grades K-5.
Founded in 1991, Trinity Catholic High School is a co-ed college-preparatory Diocesan high school with a rich tradition in academic excellence, athletic performance and community service. Regionalized from St. Mary's in Greenwich, Stamford Catholic and Norwalk Central, Trinity offers its student body an academic program with 219 courses, including advanced placement in English literature, chemistry and more. Trinity is the home of the Crusaders, a comprehensive athletic program that competes in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference with 11 men's sports and 11 women's sports. The school also has an organized community service program in which its students are required to dedicate time to working with charitable organizations such as the Stamford Red Cross, AmeriCares and Easter Seals.
The Stamford Catholic Schools Business Office operates under The Bridgeport Diocesan Schools Corp. and handles tuition and billing issues for six Catholic schools in the city: Trinity Catholic Middle School, Trinity Catholic High School, Holy Spirit School, Our Lady of the Star of the Sea School, Sacred Heart School and St. Cecilia School. The office is located inside of Trinity Catholic High School. Stamford Catholic Schools currently serve 1,300 students.
