The Adult Probation Department, governed by the City and County of San Francisco, provides supervision and assistance to individuals on probation to achieve positive outcomes for the probationer and victims of crime. The department works with government agencies, offenders and their families, and nonprofit and community organizations. It maintains investigations, community services supervision, records and reception, and information and technology service divisions. The department provides staffing for the Adult Drug Court. Its drug diversion program monitors first time drug offenders for treatment and substance abuse education program completion. The Adult Probation Department also offers a domestic violence program.

The Juvenile Probation Department is administered by the Juvenile Probation Commission. The department is comprised of several divisions, such as probation services, juvenile hall community programs, and finance and administration. It is responsible for the location, development and administration of several programs for the assessment, education, treatment and supervision of youths under the jurisdiction of the Department. The Juvenile Probation Department operates various other facilities, such as the Youth Guidance Center and the Log Cabin Ranch School in La Honda.
