The Lower Price Hill neighborhood founded the school in 1971 in response to increasing numbers of students not finishing high school. Leaving high school without a diploma, a key indicator of future poverty, makes the prospect for employment at a wage adequate to support a family in Cincinnati nearly impossible. Lower Price Hill Community School students are changing an impossible situation to one of realistic expectations for a better future. From stark beginnings in a windowless basement, Cincinnatis LPHCS has become a modern learning center encompassing the entire floor of a former elementary school in the heart of the neighborhood. With no geographic limit, enrollment is open to adults of all ages and out-of -school 16 and 17 year olds. To make school attendance possible for young parentstudents, the Community School provides limited pre-school childcare during college and GED class time. LPHCS enrolls an average of 370 high school dropouts annually. LPHCS has provided tuition-free education to over 5, 000 individuals, and more than 740 LPHCS students have received their GED diplomas. Many graduates go on to complete college degrees. We have introduced students to a college experience through various collaborations including Xavier University and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Every student in the Lower Price Hill Community School has their own story. LPHCS embraces their stories and helps them seek new goals. Some students enroll to obtain their GED or begin college. Others enroll to develop basic survival needs and increase literacy levels. LPHCS is open and inviting to everyone that needs our services. Whatever the goal may be for a student, LPHCS is here to assist them in progressing forward and achieving their goals. Students who enroll in our programs can gain access to higher education, careerbuilding skills, computer skills and much more. LPHCS staff also assists students in referrals for other obstacles in their lives. If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling in LPHCS please call or visit us Monday through Thursday, between 8: 30 a.m. and 3: 30 p.m. Our doors are always open and anyone is welcome.
