The Carroll County Times was founded on October 6, 1911 as The Times. The Times expanded and became the Carroll County Times in 1956, reflecting a long-standing emphasis on community news that still resonates. While the mission of local news and information held steady, the paper changed hands several times over the next 20 years. It was a twice-weekly paper when purchased by its owner Landmark Community Newspapers, a subsidiary of Landmark Communications, in 1974. The paper began publishing five days a week in 1980. Not long after, in 1987, it began publishing seven days a week and added home delivery. The Carroll County Times, as part of Landmark Community Newspapers of Maryland, is one of Carroll Countys top 20 employers and a proud supporter of the community through the Newspapers in Education Program, Holiday Hope and involvement in many community events and organizations.
