Metra, also known as the Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corporation, is Chicagolands commuter rail system, serving more than 200 stations on over 10 lines across the Regional Transportation Authoritys six-county service areas. Metra reaches various venues, including Adler Planetarium, Civic Opera House, Field Museum of Natural History, Harold Washington Library, Michigan Avenue Shopping, and Siskel Film Center. The rail system offers various ticket options, including monthly pass, 10-ride ticket, one-way ticket, weekend pass, group fares, and senior citizen and disability fares. It charges half fare on weekends and holidays from youngsters between 12- and 17-years. It also allows children below 11-years to ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying adult. The rail system provides more than 60 million rides annually, and serves Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties in Illinois. Metra has been honored with several E.H. Harriman awards for employee safety, and is based in Chicago.
