Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland offer five-core program initiatives, including arts, sports and fitness, social skills, character development and leadership development and education and career development. Established in 1937, it offers a range of after school programs for children and disadvantaged youth ages six through 18. The club, based in Oakland, Calif., provides prevention programs for youth, including gang, alcohol, drug, tobacco, teen sex and pregnancy prevention. Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland is affiliated with the national program of Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt used the USS Potomac as his presidential yacht from 1936 until his death in 1945. Since it reopened to the pubic in 1995, more than a quarter million people have stepped aboard the "Floating White House." The historic landmark hosts bay cruises, wine tasting cruises, and special dance and music events.

Parking and public transportation at USS Potomac
The Jack London Square garage on Washington Street offers convenient parking. Limited street parking is also available. AC Transit line 58L stops less than a quarter of a mile away. The Alameda Oakland Ferry from San Francisco docks right next to the Potomac.

Best and worst time to go to USS Potomac
Don't count on sailing in the spring, as the USS Potomac only offers cruises from May through November. In season, most weekends offer a two or three-hour, docent-led sightseeing cruise, which is a great way to learn about FDR's influence on the Bay Area.

Admission to USS Potomac
Varies with event. A two-hour sightseeing cruise is $55 per person. Dockside tours, held every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. costs $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and free for children 12 and under.
