The Parks and Recreation Department is administered by the government of the City of Wheat Ridge in Colorado. The department maintains more than 130 acres of developed parkland and over 200 acres of open space. Its Parks, Forestry and Open Space (PFOS) division works to provide a safe environment for users of city-owned swimming pools, tennis courts, trails and gardens. The Parks and Recreation Department operates a senior community center, as well as organizes youth camps, clinics and special events. The department administers SilverSneakers, which is one of the leading fitness programs for senior citizens in the United States. It also conducts classes in yoga, Pilates and aerobics.
