The Seeds for John XXIII Catholic Community were sown on October 11, 1962, when Pope John XXIII presented his opening speech at Vatican Council II. He Prayerfully exhorted the bishops of the world to open their minds and hearts to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in their deliberations. "Illuminated by the light of this Council, the Church we confidently trust-- will become greater in spirtual riches and gaining strenght of new energies there from, she will look to the future without fear. In fact, by bringing up to date where required, and by wise organization of mutual cooperation, the Church will make men, women, families and peoples turn their minds to heavenly things." John XXIII

God has created us to worship Him. Throughout the Bible this is the essential activity amongst the Covenant community of Gods people. The scriptures indicate that worship is the only activity of this life which will continue in the life that is yet to come in Christ. That places an unusual emphasis on worship. Therefore, at Providence Presbyterian Church we take the worship of God very seriously. We seek to make our worship as pleasing to the Lord as possible. We believe only God has the right to decide what pleases Him. Therefore, we seek to follow as closely as possible the guidelines for worship provided in the Bible. We hope our services are characterized by reverence for a holy God and joy expressed from hearts sovereignly redeemed by grace. We consider worship our greatest privilege and highest duty and invite you to join in the worshiping of our Living God with us.

WHAT WE BELIEVE . . .

We adhere to the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms as faithful summaries of the teaching of the Bible. In brief form, here are the key areas of our doctrinal position at Providence Presbyterian Church.

- We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- We believe the Bible is inspired by God, wholly without error as originally given, and our only infallible and authoritative rule of faith and practice.
- We believe Jesus is God and is both Lord and Head of His Church, The Body of Christ.
- We believe all men are by nature and choice sinful and separated from God.
We believe in salvation by grace alone through faith alone which is in Christ Jesus alone.
- We believe in righteous living and Godly works produced by faith and the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the importance of Biblical church government which has elders who guide the local body, and deacons who minister to the material needs of the congregation.
- We believe there are two Sacramental ordinances: Baptism and the Lord
