Calvary Baptist Church is conveniently located off West Main Street just South of the High School. The building has an old-fashioned comfort about it. Congregants are adherants to the original English translation of the Bible - the King James Version. Rather than accept modern reworking of the text in a way they view as departing from the true word of God, they see the King James Version as a translation that seeks what scholars call "formal equivalence" to the original text. It has active programs in worship, music, fellowship and mission. The Federated Church of Hyannis is the site of many church and community events, including The Lobster Roll Luncheon, held every summer Friday for 50 -plus years. It also hosts the annual Martin Luther King observance and act as a site for the Overnights of Hospitality for homeless men and women. In addition, the church provides space for the Cape Cod Council of Churches, Youth StreetReach, A Baby Center, the Barnstable Human Rights Commission and the Bridge to Hope program.
