JRM Restaurant in Binghamton, N.Y., operates as the Number 5, which most people in the Triple Cities know has been one of the premiere restaurants of the Southern Tier for many years. It is used to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions, entertain and meet clients, hold business meetings and close deals. Originally Fire Station Number 5, for 75 years the building held the engine company that served the South Side of Binghamton. With the new onslaught of fire station construction in the early 1970s, it became surplus property and was auctioned off to an Ithaca developer. In 1978, Jim McCoy bought the property and developed it into the Number 5 restaurant.
