The good people at Windrush are a breed apart. This not-for-profit equestrian farm doubles as a school dedicated to helping those dealing with physical, learning or emotional disabilities. Windrush claims to be one of the first "therapeutic equestrian centers" in the country and can trace its roots back to 1964.
Located on 35 acres in both North Andover and Boxford, and abutting 160 acres of conservation lands, Windrush has various offerings depending on the needs of their students. Therapeutic riding and equestrian assisted therapies top the list, but please contact Windrush directly to find out more about its programs. Windkist Equestrian Centre sprawls across 20 acres bordering Harold Parker State Forest. The staff provides a safe environment for riders of all ages and levels. They offer programs in different riding styles, and specialize in Hunter, Jumper and Dressage. Private sessions start at $40. The facility has two outdoor rinks and one indoor rink. A party room is available for special events.
