Founded in 1921, Grace Pacific Corporation, then known as Grace Brothers, operated for years as a construction materials supplier. In 1973, Grace Brothers purchased a quarry at Nanakuli, Hawaii, and asphalt paving plants on the island of Molokai and Halawa, Hawaii, from Nanakuli Limestone and Gravel Company, and there on entered the paving business. The employees bought out the last of the Grace familys interest through one of the first employee stock ownership plans in 1975. Grace purchased the stock of Pacific Concrete & Rock from Baker International, in 1984, and secured the lease to the present rock quarry at Makakilo, Hawaii. The company merged the two companies and their names creating what is now known as Grace Pacific Corporation. It acquired Hawaiian Bitumuls & Paving Company, Niu Construction and SUN Industries during the early 2000s.
