Established in 1980, Barrow County Christian Academy is a ministry of the Whistleville Christian Church in Winder and uses the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum. Though it is not a government accredited institution, the Academy does have Accredited Quality status with the Accelerated Christian Education. BCCA teaches K4 through the 12th grade and is a tuition based school.
One of four middle schools serving the students of Barrow County, Westside Middle School is part of the Apalachee cluster. Its feeder schools are Auburn and Kennedy elementary schools and the school's principal is Eli Welch, who oversees the more than 500 students and 47 faculty members that fill the school's halls and classrooms.
The Barrow County Alternative School is located on the same campus as the Barrow PLC. The School offers educational programs to students with moderate-to-severe mental or physical disabilities. The Alternative School helps these students get the needed academic credits to graduate from high school.
Art Glass Emporium specializes in creating all types of glass works, from beads to mosaics and stained glass. The team also offers regular classes for any customers interested in creating works of art for themselves. Check the website for updated schedules.
The second high school to serve Barrow County, Apalachee opened in 2000. It is currently helmed by principal David McGee, who oversees the school's faculty and more than 1,500 students.
Apalachee High School is a Title I school, meaning at least 40 percent of the total student population receives free and reduced lunches. In 2009, about 53 percent of Apalachee's students qualified for free and reduced lunch. As a Title I school, Apalachee receives special funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
Kennedy Elementary is one of eight elementary schools within the Barrow County School System and serves almost 600 students living in a central portion of the county. The school employs 58 faculty members.
