Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High school is located next to Barack Obama Elementary School. The school board district is five. Uniforms are mandatory for all students at this grades 9-12 school.
The school offers a variety of academic departments from art, business, English, health, performing arts, special education, technical academy, TV Production, ROTC and more. The school has volleyball, basketball, football, track and field, swimming, wrestling, tennis, cheerleading and cross country. After-school clubs include art, drama, modeling team, Leo Club, mock trial, science, stock market game and Japan.
Rising Generations offers child care throughout the entire day. Its aim is to create a healthy learning environment in which each child is seen as unique. Programs include toddler, pre-school and pre-kindergarten. Lunch and snacks are provided. During the summer it also offers an enrichment program, which is still educational but involves more fun and exciting activities such as magicians and crafts.
Marlboro Driving School provides professional driving classes in Upper Marlboro. It has morning classes and night classes.
The Fairhaven School is modeled after the Sudbury Valley School in Massachusetts, established in 1968. The philosophy behind the school comes from the idea of preparing students for real life through building strong character traits. The school does not provide transportation. The school year runs from September through June. Students ages 5 to 19 attend classes.
Fairhaven offers Play Time for children 3 to 5 and their parents on Tuesdays from 10am to noon at a nominal cost.
Prince George's Community College's main campus is located next to Largo High School on MD-202. PGCC has more than 100 different types of programs for study. Students can graduate with associate degrees in teaching, science and the arts that are designed to transfer to a four-year university. The school offers a wide range of continuing-education courses, senior courses and career development classes. The school has 103 different countries represented. Students have created more than 40 clubs covering interests such as language, religion, fine arts and professions. There is a theater and an art gallery.
Tree of Life Child Development Center is located of MD-202 in the First Christian Church of Brockhall. This is a Christian childcare center that prepares students for kindergarten, with early exposure to Spanish, math, reading, social science, science, technology and health. Bible study is a part of the curriculum, which serves children ages two to five.
Innovative Study Techniques offers test prep for Catholic school and science and technology entrance exams, SAT/PSAT, AP exams, state exams, ACT and professional exams. It offers one-on-one and group tutoring.
Innovative Study Techniques prep is located near MD-202 and I-495. The Largo Metro station is within walking distance. There is parking available all around the building.
Marlton Elementary School is nestled inside the Marlton community. This is a K through 6 school. The school board district is 9. Uniforms are mandatory for students. Before and after care are available. The TAG program is offered at the school. Marlton Elementary participates in several community fundraising activities, including Giants A+ Bonus Bucks.
Phylis E Williams Elementary School is located down the road from Prince George's Community College, at the intersection of Harry S. Truman and Prince Pl. It is a member of School Board District 6 and includes students from Kindergarten through sixth grade. Uniforms are mandatory at Phyllis E. Williams, and the school offers such activities as band, choir and basketball and special academic programs such as TAG and Special Ed. No foreign language is taught. The school provides before and after school care.
St. Mary of the Assumption School is close to the interesection of Marlboro Pike and Largo Road. This school is for grades K - 8 and before- and after-school care is available. Admission is open to non-Catholics, but preference is given to Catholics. The school participates in several community fundraising programs and teaches a combination of religious and academic curiculum. Some of the more popular sports available are baseball, basketball, soccer and softball.
Imagine Foundation Public Charter School is located near historic Upper Marlboro. It is a part of a national family of public charter schools. The school welcomes students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The students wear mandatory uniforms. The Parent Teacher Organization is active in organizing activities and events, and before and after-school care are available.
Arrowhead Elementary Schools is located near Ritchie Market Place. This school is part of School Board District 7. The school partipates in the Giant A+ Bonus Program. Arrowhead uses the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school system, a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning, and evaluation. For the 2004 to 2005 school year, Arrowhead Elementary School received the Maryland Center for Character Education award. Students are required to wear uniforms at Arrowhead.
