Wing Lake Developmental Center is one of many programs in Oakland County that helps students with severe cognitive impairments or multiple impairments. The center offers programs for children and students from age three through 26, providing a safe and welcoming place where they can learn, develop and grow. Each student receives an individual education plan and lessons in reading, social studies, math, science and language. Other programs include physical education, music, swimming and bowling.
West Maple Elementary implements Kumon's teaching practices in both math and reading in order to provide a strong foundation for its students. The math and Eglish classrooms serve as the Kumon centers in the school. Teachers are trained in order to esure that the Kumon method is being implimented properly. There is also a certified Kumon instructor and director on site during class times. The school has around 400 students all of whom benefiting from the Kumon method. West Maple Kumon instructor and center director, Susan Bae, is available to parents during her office hours Monday through Thursday from 10am to 2pm. There is also Kumon after school tutoring offered by West Maple.
The Alliance Francaise is the world's largest network of French language schools and cultural centers, with more than 1,000 independently run committees. As a certified non-profit, the French Institute has been in business for more than 30 years and offers a multitude of courses in French, from beginner to advanced. Courses in French culture are also offered to go along with language courses.
At Bloomin Kids, learning and teaching is based on each individual student. This is due to the small class size, which allows for more one-on-one time with each student. To go along with the one-on-one education a highly involved and supportive environment provides students with engagement and activity-based learning. Teachers openly and regularly communicate with families in order to ensure that goals are being met.
The French School provides bilingual education, with a strong focus on the French language. The school's goal is to create an environment in which citizens of the world can come together to learn, as well as teach, language. It caters to students from pre-kindergarten through the 12th grade.
