Salem's mascot is the Rocks.

The Plymouth-Canton Montessori School is located on the south side of Joy Road, between Sheldon and Canton Center Roads. The curriculum is guided by the philosophy of Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952), an Italian physician and educator whose teaching methods were designed to nurture a child's own "natural" instincts. In theory, this method allows children to use their internal compasses, so to speak, to negotiate a learning environment. The school was founded in 1972, though it has only occupied its current location since 1991. The Plymouth-Canton Montessori School is a member of both the Plymouth and the Canton Chambers of Commerce.
This ChildTime Learning Center is nestled in the Cherry Hill Village, on the north side of Cherry Hill Road, west of Denton Road. Classes are available for children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years old, all of which are led by teachers who are fully licensed and insured. The center has a large playground for the older students and provides computers for them to use as learning tools. Cash is not accepted for tuition payments, although money orders are.

St. Michael Lutheran Church is located on the east side of Sheldon Road, between Warren and Ford Roads. A variety of youth classes and ministries are available, as are outreach programs. A nursery is also available for young children during services.
