Ocean Tides is a Lasallian residential and educational facility founded in 1975 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers for young men in need of diversionary counseling or residential treatment. The mission of the Ocean Tides school is to help at-risk boys through a school and residential program tailored to the individual. The school has a proven success rate of helping 82% of the young men who complete their program where they avoid future legal difficulties. It is the only New England-based program working exclusively with adjudicated young men. Ocean Tides is accredited by NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) and CARF (Council on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).
St. Peter's By The Sea is a small, Episcopalian preschool located on Central Street, just a few blocks from the Narragansett seawall. It is connected to St. Peter's By The Sea Episcopal Church via an annex completed in the late 2000s. The school has been in operation since the 1970s, when the vacant rector's house on the church's property was converted into a schoolhouse.
Situated about 7 miles from the Kingston Campus of the University of Rhode Island, the Graduate School of Oceanography overlooks Narragansett Bay. The school is recognized as a leader in the field. Robert Ballard, the man who located the Titanic, has an office on the campus. The Pell Marine Science Library and the National Sea Grant Library are both located on campus.
Narragansett Pier Middle School is located right in the heart of this seaside community and is directly next to Narragansett High School. The middle school's mission is to guide its fifth through eighth grade students through a period of growth and change intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially.
The campus, built in 1990, has athletic facilities on site, in addition to the joint use of the outdoor track and baseball field located next door at Narragansett High School. There are several nature trails on the grounds for outdoor exploration.
Currently, the school's science department is involved in a pilot program headed by Dr. Robert Ballard. Students will watch live feeds as he and his team undertake an exciting expedition on the E/V Nautilus to map the sea floor, study underwater volcanoes, investigate unusual life forms, explore shipwrecks and more.
