Founded in 1987, Mount Aloysius is an intermediate care facility that provides services and support to adult males with mental and other developmental disabilities. Founded in 1954, it is operated by a volunteer board of directors and is licensed and certified by the Ohio Department of Health. It employs more than 140 staff members and serves over 80 residents. The facility has several departments, including administrative, dietary, environmental, medical and program services. Its main building houses a dining room, kitchen, training area, auditorium with a seating capacity of up to 150 people, apartments and administrative offices. The facility organizes several recreational activities for its residents, including pool games, exercises, Special Olympic practice sessions, sports events and dances. The Family Child Learning Center is a research and training program located in Tallmadge, Ohio. It provides support services for young children with developmental disabilities and their families. The center is sponsored by Akron Childrens Hospital in conjunction with Kent State University. The Family Child Learning Center offers family-centered developmental services. It maintains a staff of more than 50 full- and part-time professionals and parents. The center provides early intervention, individualized family service planning, play-based developmental assessment, and family information and support services. The Family Child Learning Center operates an integrated research preschool program for children between the ages of 3 and 5 who suffer from autism spectrum disorders. In addition, it offers the Regional Infant Hearing Program (RIHP) for infants and toddlers with hearing impairments.
