As an inclusive academic environment providing individualized curriculum for remedial and advanced students, Riverstone adheres to the philosophy that academic success results from an educational environment that is designed specifically to meet the developmental needs and interests of a diverse group of students and avoids artificial barriers resulting from a one-size-fits-all classroom approach. The course of study, teacher training and classroom design at Riverstone follow more than 50 years of research and are consistent with AMI Montessori schools found around the world. AMI-trained teachers, even in preschool, receive master's-level training.
Located in East Marietta since 1974, the Casa Montessori School serves a student body of preschoolers through the 6th grade, with four primary classes (half-days) and three elementary-level classes. Older students should have a Montessori background or show an ability to thrive in a Montessori classroom. Florence Johnson, the founding director who opened Casa, formerly was a volunteer in her son's Montessori school.
The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art features art pieces, both historical and modern, from around the world and strives to educate and inspire visitors with its diverse collection. In addition, it also serves as a valuable resource for Oglethorpe University students, giving them the opportunity to experience arts and culture from throughout the world. The 7,000-square-foot museum features regularly rotating exhibitions, featuring everything from spiritual art to landscape and portrait painting. In addition, the museum hosts various lecture and concert series. Special events and discounts are available to museum members.
