Jules Glant founded pacific Iron & Metal, the first of the Glant Pacific Companies, in Seattle in 1917. He recognized the value of recycling increasingly scarce resources in an efficient and economical way. In addition to metal, the company also dealt in waste paper, rubber and rags. It operates one of the largest non-ferrous scrap processing plants in the Pacific Northwest and one of was the first non-ferrous scrap processors in the state of Washington with an approved and operational water treatment system. The materials PIM handled in the past have paved the way for the development of other Glant Pacific Divisions: Pacific Fabrics and Crafts and Pacific Irons Building Materials.
