The Office of the Sheriff provides a range of public safety and law enforcement services. The department s civil operation division oversees civil and criminal court proceedings; serves warrants and apprehending fugitives; enforces court-ordered injunctions; and executes Sheriffs Sales. Its civil divisions are responsible for serving civil complaints and writs of execution. The department offers the Sunday Office program, which makes the Philadelphia justice system more accessible to its citizens. Its Junior Posse antidrug project serves more than 500,000 of public school children in Philadelphia. Additionally, the department operates a community outreach program, Home Ownership through Participation and Education, which was started in 1988 to open up the Sheriffs Sale process to potential first-time home buyers and working-class families through informational seminars. The Office of the Sheriff is located in Philadelphia.
