Peninsula Interfaith Action (PIA) is committed to finding solutions to local social problems by putting the values of democracy and diverse religious traditions into action.  PIA helps people create affordable housing, youth community programs, better neighborhood schools and improved economic opportunities. With training and support from PIA, local people can change in their communities. In San Carlos, PIA has provided youth programs, community centers, and resources to improve education.

PIA is a membership organization open to congregations and religious organizations of any faith, non-faith-based organizations who share PIA's mission to improve the quality of life on the San Francisco Peninsula through faith-based community organizing.

Serving Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, the Second Harvest Food Bank is located in San Carlos off of Bing Street. Every year, the food bank distributes more than 39 million pounds of food to seniors and low-income families with children. It also offers various programs that assist seniors and families, including a mobile pantry that delivers food to low-income communities.
