Founded in 1975, the Indiana Resource Center for Families with Special Needs provides services to parents, families and service providers with the information and training necessary to help assure effective educational programs and appropriate services for children and young adults with disabilities. It organizes seminars and workshops that offer information on several topics and issues, such as advocacy, aging, autism, challenging behaviors, clinical issues, early intervention, health care, positive behavioral support, self-determination, sensory integration, sexuality and socialization, spectrum disorders and workforce matters. The Habitat for Humanity ReStores are retail outlets for new and gently-used building supplies, which are donated by generous individuals, corporations and contractors. They are open to the public and general contractors to purchase items, such as building supplies, carpet, appliances and furniture, at significant discounts, often 30 to 70 percent below average retail prices. Funds from ReStore sales are put back into building more Habitat homes throughout St. Joseph County and fulfilling the Habitat mission of providing simple, decent and affordable homes for hard-working, low-income families in our community.

St Joseph County WIC (Women, Infants & Children) is sponsored by Memorial Hospital of South Bend’s Beacon Community Impact division. WIC benefits and other funding are provided by the Indiana WIC Program supervised by the Indiana State Department of Health. WIC provides nutrition food benefits to supplement diets, education and referrals to additional community services for eligible individuals (pregnant women, breastfeeding moms up to one year after delivery, non-breastfeeding moms up to six months after delivery, infants and children up to age 5). The St Joseph County WIC team consists of Registered Dietitians, Nutritionists and Registered Nurses. Additionally, the WIC breastfeeding support team consists of IBCLC’s and Lactation Specialists to support you in reaching your breastfeeding goals. WIC helps families by providing supplemental healthy food benefits and education. These benefits can be used at participating stores via the WIC EBT card they receive from WIC to purchase their foods. The goal of this page is to help provide additional information and education to our WIC participant community in addition to what is received in the clinic. Followers can expect to see breastfeeding support information, helpful tips, important information regarding benefits, event announcements and more. The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) is a part of Real Services, which plans, develops, implements and administers various programs for senior citizens and low-income households in Indiana.
