Norris Square Neighborhood Project NSNP was founded in 1973 by Natalie Kempner, a fifth grade teacher in North Philadelphia. NSNP began as a small project created to help educate and protect children living in a section of Philadelphia that was notorious for its deadly drug culture. Over more than three decades, the agencys work has grown in scope and impact as the predominately Latino community around it has expanded and flourished. The environmental, arts and education programs of NSNP have helped transform the surrounding community and the lives of Norris Square residents. NSNP provides community residents with quality youth programs including low-cost after-school care & summer camp and teen employment, environmental education, cultural programs for neighborhood women, and community gardening/neighborhood beautification initiatives. The ongoing work of NSNP has dramatically improved the community landscape while also winning awards from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the Philadelphia Flower Show for its culturally-themed gardens: Las Parcelas, Villa Africana Colob , Jardin de Paz, El Batey, Raices, and others.

Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission is the third oldest Rescue Mission in the country. Founded in 1878, we have reached out to the homeless in Philadelphia for more than 130 years. Originally named Sunday Breakfast Association, our name was changed a few years ago to reflect our expanded services as a Rescue Mission. Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission serves the homeless through two locations in Philadelphia: a shelter in Center City and a transitional home for women in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The Center City shelter also houses a long-term recovery program for men. The Mission does not receive government funding and relies on the generous contributions of caring individuals, families, churches and businesses. Donations are supplemented with income from two thrift stores.

Mission Serving over 2,600 children and families annually, we are devoted to the well being of children in all walks of life. By providing access to a safe home and family life, health of mind and body, children, adults and families can achieve their greatest potential. It is with these supports that our most vulnerable citizens can make contributions that have a positive impact in our communities. Methodist Services provides life enriching services to children, adults and families as they face the challenges of limited resources, increased poverty and homelessness, disability, deficits in education and behavioral health services. Quality services provided include housing, child care, education programs, permanence in families, mental health services and nutrition programs. Methodist Home for Children arose from the sensitivity of women in Philadelphia to meet the needs of children orphaned as a result of the Civil War. Mrs. Ellen Simpson, wife of Bishop Matthew Simpson, issued a call to the women of the church to organize a charity to provide for the needy orphans. The property and buildings that comprise our Main Campus were a generous gift from Colonel Joseph Bennett in 1879. The diversity of programs offered by Methodist today reflects the changing needs of individuals, children and families in our community. Methodist Services provides the essentials for living and the social, emotional, psychological and educational supports that allow individuals, children and families to achieve their greatest potential. Although our services have changed, our commitment to strengthening families and producing the next generation of leaders has remained central to our mission.
