The department offers educational, technical assistance, permitting, regulatory law enforcement, environmental reviewing, and site identification and cleanup services. It provides grants and loans to public entities and commercial businesses. The Washington State Department of Ecology works in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency.

In addition, the Washington State Department of Ecology offers several financial assistance programs to support various environmental management projects.
