Smack-dab in the heart of Silicon Valley, sits approximately 120 acres of business that host nearly 80,000 visitors a week making the San Jose Flea Market one of the largest open-air markets in the country. The market was started in 1959, when George Bumb, who was in the landfill business, kept seeing wonderful things getting thrown away and felt there had to be a profitable way to sell them to people who would want them. Bumb took a swap meet approach and expanded it to encompass individual merchant stalls with on-site product storage. The Flea Market averages more than 6,000 sellers each week and is home to nearly 30 snack bars, street vendors and sit-down restaurants. Its property encompasses approximately 1,000 small buildings, 1,000 open-air stalls and all sorts of amenities. The Flea Market is located in San Joe, Calif.
