Whitecliff Park is composed of 85 acres of woods, trails, paths, footbridges, creeks and a former quarry that is now a meandering pond with rock formations rising from the banks and tree-lined hills overlooking it. A section of the eight-mile Grant's Trail (former railroad right-of-way) runs through the park for cycling, hiking and strolling. A 22,000-square foot Community Center located in the preserve provides all sorts of fitness equipment, activities and lessons for residents and their guests. Lighted tennis courts, sports fields, picnic pavilions, basketball courts and a playground are also here, as are bathrooms. Crestwood's outdoor Aquatic Center supplies a lap pool, slides, a lazy river and more.
The large Shrewsbury City Center complex houses a community recreation center, offices for the city's Parks and Recreation Department and Shrewsbury's City Hall. The recreation center includes a gym and weight room, basketball courts, a game room with pool and ping-pong tables. Yearly membership costs are heavily discounted for residents and seniors.
In business since 1990, Leslie's is a full-service swimming pool store for inground and above-ground pools. It also has a comprehensive selection of chemicals and accessories.
Vetta Sports-Concord is a large athletic club with something for everyone, including swimming, indoor tennis and racquetball, indoor soccer, and fitness classes. Located near Interstate 270, Vetta offers classes and leagues for all ages. It is one of five locations in the St. Louis area.
In addition to league play and instructional programs, amenities include a snack bar and childcare, summer camps and birthday parties for children. The fitness center has a full range of cardio equipment, a free weight room, personal training and group classes. Fitness center memberships are priced for individuals, couples and families and include access to the heated indoor pool as well as privileges to the tennis and racquetball courts
Lindgate Manor Swim Club offers a private pool and swimming club. Membership is required. It has facilities for swim and dive teams to practice as well as a relaxing environment to recreationally swim.
Across the street from the Shrewsbury Public Safety Building, the Aquatic Center has large pools and water play areas, offering something for everyone—including a diving board and several slides. The facility is outdoors and only opens during the summer. Shrewsbury residents are offered admission and season passes at a discount and resident senior citizens are admitted for free.
The Center of Clayton offers visitors numerous opportunities for recreation, including four gyms, an indoor track, more than 20,000 square feet of aquatic space, a climbing wall, meeting rooms and more.
Clayton High School shares the facility, so the visitor base is an eclectic mix of students and members. The site also features Coffee Corner, a Subway restaurant and a nursery service. An extensive directory of additional services is available on the Center's Web site.
The national nonprofit OASIS has a regional office at the facility. The group provides programming opportunities for people who are 50 and older.
Located at the corner of Adams and Taylor, the Kirkwood Family YMCA is a Christian athletic organization. It offersfitness classes, swimming classes, workout facilities and sports programs. Its sports programs challenge teams from the YMCA locations in adjacent communities in fun-filled, respectful sports play.
It's pool time! According to the University City website, the Heman Pool has something for everyone. People can go for a relaxing swim or do laps, go down the water slide or watch their youngster having fun in the kiddies’ pool.
Handicap accessible features include sidewalk level facility entry, accessible entry into pool, accessible water-chair available.
Youth 12 years and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian age 18 or older at all times.
